On Sunday 29th June, 4 of our players travelled to Cromer to take part in the second round of this year’s Play Your Way To Wimbledon event, hoping to earn the chance to play at the All England Club.
Ross and Alex in the men’s doubles started well, with a 2-0 victory in the first round. They also began round 2 strongly, taking the first set 4-0, however, match points slipped through their fingers in set 2, losing on a tiebreak. The 3rd set tiebreak was extremely close, with both teams trading the lead. Eventually, the strong pair from Saxmundham took the decider 10-8, meaning Ross and Alex missed out on the final by the narrowest of margins.
In the ladies, Bev and Mary took part in a round robin event, playing each of the other 4 pairs once. Both played exceptionally, winning 3 of the 4 matches, only being narrowly beaten by the event winners. However, they still came away with second place for the second consecutive year.
After the matches and presentations had concluded, they went and enjoyed a well earned Fish and Chips on the seafront before the drive back after a thoroughly enjoyable day of tennis in the sun.
